Oversized Load Transport

When your cargo exceeds legal highway dimensions, STX handles every permit, survey, and escort detail so you can focus on the job.

Oversized load on highway with pilot car escort

Oversized load transport is one of the most complex logistics challenges in the industry. Moving cargo that exceeds legal width, height, length, or weight limits requires detailed planning, multi-state permit expertise, route engineering, and coordination with state and local authorities. STX has built its reputation on executing these moves flawlessly.

Legal Thresholds: In most states, loads exceeding 8'6" wide, 13'6" tall, 53' long, or 80,000 lbs gross weight require an oversize/overweight permit. STX manages all permit requirements across all 48 states.

What We Handle

Super Loads

Loads exceeding 200,000 lbs or 200 ft in length requiring special engineering analysis.

Wide Loads

Cargo up to 24 feet wide with proper flagging, escorts, and lane closure coordination.

Tall Loads

Loads up to 18+ feet tall with detailed overhead clearance surveys and rerouting.

Long Loads

Extendable loads up to 250 feet requiring multi-point coordination and rear steer.

Overweight Freight

Loads up to 500,000+ lbs with multi-axle spread trailers for legal weight distribution.

Corridor Moves

Repetitive oversized shipments along common corridors with blanket permit programs.

Our Permitting Process

Every oversized move begins with thorough permit research. Our team reviews load dimensions and weight, identifies the optimal route, assesses every bridge and overpass for clearance and weight rating, obtains all required state and local permits, and arranges any required law enforcement or utility escorts.

We handle single-trip permits, annual permits, and blanket permit programs for high-volume corridors. Our relationships with state permit offices across the country mean faster turnarounds and fewer surprises.

Route Survey & Pre-Move Planning

For complex moves, our team conducts a full route survey before the haul. Survey vehicles document every potential obstacle — low bridges, narrow roads, tight turns, overhead utilities, and construction zones — and we engineer solutions for each. Route surveys are documented with photos, GPS data, and detailed reports shared with our drivers and customers before wheels roll.

Pilot Car & Escort Services

STX provides and coordinates certified pilot car drivers for all loads requiring escort. Our pilot car operators are trained, certified, and equipped with proper signage, flags, and communication equipment. For loads requiring law enforcement escort, we coordinate directly with state and local authorities to minimize delays and ensure compliance.
